If you would like to share our exercises and research with your clients, you might want to communicate points like these:
In therapy, I’d be glad to talk with you about any experiences of homophobia/biphobia/transphobia that you have had. I wanted to share with you an online resource with exercises for adults who are LGBTQ and have had troubling heterosexist, biphobic or transphobic experiences that they would like to process. They involve three days of expressive writing, for about a half hour each time, and a survey at the beginning and one a month later to see what you thought. There were developed by LGBTQ+ affirmative researchers.
The exercises do not give you solutions or tell you what to do, but they give you prompts that can guide you to come to insights that fit for you. They give you time to think about your activities, feelings and/or thoughts to think about what works for you.
They are part of a research project that has found these exercises to be helpful to over 90% of LGBTQ people dealing with heterosexism (Levitt et al., 2022). The project is continually fine-tuning these exercises for LGBTQ clients. By participating in them, you would contribute to that process of helping researchers understand how people process and respond to heterosexism, biphobia, and transphobia.
It is entirely voluntary to participate and you can stop at any time. You can check out the “Grow” webpage on this website to access the exercises and learn more and to see what you think.
